SPM Controllers Used in Bearing Press Machines for Consistent Force Control

A few months back, we got a call from a long-time customer — an auto component manufacturer based in Coimbatore. They were facing a strange issue on their bearing press machine.

“Bro, we’re losing almost 15–20 components daily due to pressing problems. Sometimes the bearing gets too loose, sometimes it cracks. We don’t know what’s wrong.”

We knew exactly what they were dealing with — inconsistent pressing force.

What Was Actually Happening?

Their setup had a good machine mechanically — a hydraulic press with solid build. But the control system? Very basic.

It was fully manual. The operator had to “feel” when to stop the press. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn’t. And that’s where the problem was.

They were assembling critical parts, and the force needed to press-fit the bearing had to be accurate — every single time. Even a slight variation affected the quality.

That’s where we came in.

Our Approach

Instead of changing the entire machine, we gave them what was actually missing — a smart, dedicated controller.

We built a Special Purpose Machine (SPM) controller, customized for their press machine:

  • It read the actual pressing force using sensors
  • The motion stopped exactly at the set limit
  • All data was logged – every press, every shift
  • And operators could monitor everything on a simple HMI screen

No guesswork. No trial and error. Just clean, consistent pressing.

After Installation – The Result?

We still remember the call we got after 3 days.

“Bro! Super ah work aaguthu. Rejection ellam pochu. Even new operators can run it smoothly.”

Their rejection dropped by over 80%, and more importantly — they gained confidence in their process.

Today, they’ve installed the same controller in 2 more machines.

Why This Matters

Press-fit operations look simple, but they’re not. Every bearing has a tolerance. Every part has to be perfect. And manual control just doesn’t give that consistency.

That’s why a dedicated SPM controller makes a difference. It talks to the machine, reads force in real time, and ensures the job is done right, every time.

Where You Can Use It

This same type of controller is ideal for:

  • Gear press fitting machines
  • Shaft assembly stations
  • Bearing mounting in motors
  • And any other precision press-fit operations

Final Words

If your machine is strong but the results are not, maybe it’s time to upgrade the brain — not the body.

We’ll build the control system that suits your exact process — nothing more, nothing less.
